My ten year old son is being picked on by teenagers in the neighborhood we just moved in to. What should I do
We just moved into a new neighborhood. A large group of teenagers hangs out at the corner across the street from our home. They have been calling my ten year old son names and jumping out at him and shouting at him as he walks by or tries to ride his bike. They make fun of his clothing and call him "fat boy" and other derogatory names. He must walk by them daily to get to and from the bus stop. I can tell he is very upset but he hasn't really said anything to me because I think he's afraid to start more problems. I have an 8 year old daughter also, but, thankfully she has been spared from the bullying so far. I do not want to start out in our new neighborhood as "the bitch", however I have already had to confront them once when one of the approached my car as I drove up and glared threatningly through my window. I don't think the harrassers are the kids who live in the house across the street, but their friends. How can I resolve this problem without causing a huge problem?
Go out and try to meet your neighbors. Bring your (hopefully very well behaved and polite) children along with you. When meeting the new neighbors, express concerns about the problems the kids ont he corner have been causing, and ask your neighbors if they have had any issues. Hopefully somewhere along the way, someone will get the message and straighten their kids out. If not, you'll need to work harder to identify the parents of these kids. Dont go out and confront them yourself- that will bring a lot more embarrassment (and harrassment) for a 10 year old boy.
